Elementary, My Dear Chloride, Part II

"I'm poisonous, Sodium. I'm no good for anyone."

With that sentence, Sodium knew he had met his soul mate. "Don't you see, Chlorine, I'm poisonous, too!" He half-smiled. "And hey, if I'm gonna combine with an element, I sure don't want to screw up another gas's life. It wouldn't be noble, right?"

Chlorine smiled through her tears. "I suppose..."

"Step closer. Let's make an octet."

So the two elements stepped toward each other, but neither of them was prepared for the magnitude of the reaction. The sparks flew immediately, and the two became one: NaCl.

"We're compatible. More than I would've imagined," Chloride (for that was now her name) smiled in surprise.

"Of course we are. We were made for each other."

"What makes you so sure?"

"Elementary, my dear Chloride. Together, we were incomplete and dangerous. But now," Sodium smiled blissfully, "we sustain life. We complete each other."

They seem to be taking this relationship a little fast. They met a few short sentences ago, and now they're making octets and forming compounds.

They were meant for each other. Why wait?

It's all a part of the octet rule, and since sodium and chlorine fit those terms, they should be able to bond no matter how fast it takes.

Oh, I see. If you think someone's perfect, you should just join yourself to them inseparably, and hope the relationship doesn't sour.

No, there are still some relationships that take a while before bonding in elements. Sodium and Chlorine just so happened to bond faster due to the fact that they were perfect for eachother.

Limerence fades, but for Na and Cl it is far to late.

It is not just attraction. They are in love!

Reogan said...

Because it's so easy to determine if you're truly in love after one short conversation.

Do you want to write an alternate version? I wouldn't be bothered this time, since you co-wrote it.

Reogan said...

This is not the time for me to take on a new project.

Elphaba said...

Then quit complaining, because you're not getting another version. :P

I complain not of the story, but of the characters foolishness. Love is not a guarantee.

They're throwing away their lives.

Elphaba said...

This whole thing was your idea in the first place!

Reogan said...

The story? Yes. The speed? Yggdrasil, no.

Elphaba said...

You ok'd it.

Reogan said...

I have to accept anything you do. We'd never get posts otherwise.

Elphaba said...

What are you talking about? There are three other authors here!

Reogan said...

I meant from you.

Elphaba said...

No, you'd get other stuff... just not a lot.

Reogan said...

At all.

Elphaba said...

Sad, but proven true, since I haven't posted in almost a month. Having a crazy life sucks. Sorry!

Reogan said...

Meh!

This is one of the best things on the blog. By far.
