Consequences, Part 6

EPILOGUE, FIVE YEARS LATER:

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Christina asked her fiancee.

"Yeah. It's been five years. I mean, we were away at college and everything, but... I still need to make peace--let him know that I've forgiven him," John replied.

She smiled in understanding. "Do you want to be alone?"

"If you don't mind..."

"Go."

John walked down the path to his father's gravestone. As she watched, Christina thought back to the whole ordeal. It had barely lasted a day, but it had changed the both of them permanently.

Meanwhile, John had knelt at the gravestone. "Dad, I... I know that your problem wasn't all your fault. I mean, the kidnapping me and attempting to do the same to Christina... but you were sick. I understand that now. So..." John tried and failed to clear away the lump in his throat, "I forgive you. It took me a while, but I do. And I love you," he added as tears filled his eyes.

There was nothing more to say.

The sunset's glow cast John into silhouette as he raised the ceremonial dagger. Christina laughed and tried to run to stop him, but it was to late. He placed his heart at the headstone and somehow rose to turn to Christina as she reached him. Blood leaked from the corner of his mouth as he smiled. He opened his mouth to speak, and Christina heard a gagging that lapsed into silence as his eyes rolled back and he fell. Christina held his body in her arms, weeping silently.

The only sound was the faint tapping from below.

Love it! Awesome ending once again. Elphaba and you should work on something together...

Ugh, can you imagine our writing styles combining? It would be like Melody Carlson meets Stephen King!

Oh, and would you QUIT the alternate ending thing?!? It's driving me nuts! I would like my work to be respected as my own, and not have people changing it. What if I wrote a new ending to the Apocalypse?

Reogan said...

I would love that. Also? mock it.

I assume I was King in your analogy. I can think of no higher compliment.

Elphaba said...

Yes, Reogan, you were Stephen King. Would I really compare you to the author of the Diary of a Teenage Girl series?

Reogan said...

You? Yes.

Elphaba said...

Yeah, right.

Now that I've grown older and madder, I see we truly must collaborate. When met and I did, wonders were born. When we do, countries will perish.

Wasn't this co-authored?

Reogan said...

Not really. It was primarily my idea, and Elphaba wrote it. She also made it non-slash, which I found took away the cheap fanfiction-y effect.

If I wrote a slash fiction about elements on the periodic table, it would be between potassium and fluorine.

"Now that I've grown older and madder, I see we truly must collaborate."

Can you imagine... WIN! We should!

Reogan said...

Potassium and fluorine. Hm, maybe femslash. Actually, yes. Do it. And we must. After NaNoWriMo.

I'll buy the bomb shelter.
