Not Dead

Just gone.

I didn't really intend to come back at all. The blog had shifted, and I felt (and still feel, in some ways) a relic. Instead of a literature-y blog where Met did an occasional music thing, it seems we've now a music-y blog where I do an occasional literature thing. And this is working better.

I toyed with the idea of retiring. That didn't pan out.

It's November second now. At the moment, I have 1842 words written for my NaNo novel. I don't know if I like it yet, but I hope you would. I won't post it, of course, and it will starve any writing from me here, I bet. But I am writing. I don't have the entire picture, but I see bits clearly.

It's about Michael. Michael, Bekka, Gabe. The Angels I've written about before.

I think the Apocalypse is dead, and that's okay. I learned from it, and I think we all had fun. In the end, though, Red was too alone. I don't have the will to continue until that's ended, and as a character he's flat. Green had more character, and he was in all of four chapters.

I'm a novelist now. My real works are big (and too commercially minded) for this. Sorry. What I can offer are short stories, or my old "name" shorts, from which Michael was born. Maybe a poem or two. Thoughts, of course.

So let's try again, eh?

I posted this over Met's post. Read that too. And comment. We like comments.

Risk Mk. II

I have made a game development blog for a game that I am working on using Risk figures. It is a basic miniatures game with rules that are being worked on now. I have the ideas, but they need to be written up. I am also making models out of graph paper, and need inspiration for that as well. Please put comments about the game in the other blog, and comments about this post here.

Basic Overview:
Try to capture the other person/people's fort without letting them capture yours. Each miniature type has various stats and abilities. The Risk board is entirely optional and can be used merely as a playing field. Hope you like it, and more information will be put there soon.

Maintenance

This is today's post. I am improving the blog today. The changes are mostly behind-the-scenes, but there is one extraordinarily major cosmetic change I think you'll agree suits the blog. Tomorrow's post is also the concluding post of the Apocalypse. It will be epic.

A Brief Explanation

I am a benevolent god, and I have granted you an extra Apocalypse this week. I don't mean to overshadow Qupar who has provided a story on time this week. Please don't forget to shower him with adoration as well. When I double my output, I will always use Wednesdays, as they seem to be the opposite of Sunday. Thursdays would technically work as well, but that offends my aesthetics. Please check for Quparian content every week, as I foresee no reason for him to stop posting.

Enjoy.

Under Construction

The blog is being rearranged, and so I have no column for this Monday. Instead, I give you links.

The Call of Cthulhu

I have no idea what this is called. Maybe Gundam Tanosii? or is that an expletive?

Zombie Alert -- Home Protection for Sophisticated Families

Urban Dead

Everything should be fixed soon. I hope.

Perhaps a Change?

The current posting schedule is, at heart, a list of genres.
  • The Apocalypse is an ongoing story, set in a familiar world with unfamiliar settings. Basically a chapter-a-week novel.
  • The Laments and now the upcoming Sevenfold Sorrows are all prose-poems.
  • Tuesday Tales are abstract short stories, released in short passages.
  • JoCo Stories, the site's newest addition, are each a short story, appearing all at once, based upon Jonathan Coulton's songs.
  • Thursday Thoughts are each short, often horrible poems.
  • Elphaba's unnamed Friday post is now a short story a week, as I understand it.
  • God Dreamt is a story of seven parts.
Thus, we have:
  • Novel
  • Prose-Poem
  • Abstract Short Story
  • Short Story
  • Poem
  • Short Story
  • Short Story
You can see the problem. Three or four short stories depending on your point of view. Thus Wednesday is returning to Song of the Week, beginning next week. A review should add some variety.

200

We have ten score posts on the blog now, three quarters of which are maddeningly meaningless. The other forty-nine are written by Elphaba and Met. I think that now is a time for celebration. I have delayed the Lament for a week to bring you the exciting news.

To properly ring in our victory, I invited an illustrator. He will be illustrating the Apocalypse, and perhaps other things as they strike his fancy. By illustrating, of course, I mean sprites, as he somehow has less drawing ability than I do, a feat in itself. The second reward is my new blog, which will function much like bonus commentary on a DVD, but without having to watch the entire video again.

A little over a year ago, Met posted 100, a post that celebrated not 100 published posts, but 100 total, drafts included. We currently have 266 posts including those that are drafts and those that are scheduled. What have we achieved in that time? We gained Elphaba, an author with an unfortunate penchant for writing Fanfiction. GLaDOS's Lament was published. Tuesday's little Tale began, and mystery ensued. Songs appeared every week, for a time, though they have encountered a hiatus that can only lengthen as Met flees from the government. Thursday has become known for producing Thoughts, which are generally beautifully macabre. Friday now Features our newest author, who tries to resist the madness with actual meaning. God has begun to dream on Saturdays, and will do so until somewhere around the Chinese New Year. The Winged have fallen, and lament it. I have found my new work, which I have no intention of ending, and will last for as long as I can write about it.

What will the next 100 bring?

Is it cheating to end Song of the Day like this?

Options

I'm still taking it easy, as anyone who expects a Song of the Day will soon discover, but I will probably still post more than anyone else here. This is due to my deep psychological need to post, not Met's failings to post often enough (failings which don't actually exist). It's been too soon since Elphaba stopped regular posting to determine if she fails to post frequently enough. Anyway, on to the tender heart of the matter.

Monday has always been the domain of my dear GLaDOS. However, despite the fact that she is Still Alive, you'll be GLaD to hear she won't be making an encore performance until Portal II. So now we must fill the space with something, lest Met greedily snatch my posting territory, as he is wont to do. Option one is a Jacques Cousteau tale; a prequel to my first. Before the beginning, I'd like to note how astonishingly difficult it is to write like this. Even so, I managed to write

A Prequel, Part I

Well, one thing's clear, thought Jacques Cousteau, It's dark. And so it was. As Jacques descended the blood soaked stairs into the dark depths of Darkdeep, the darkness deepened. He dared not unsheathe the Feldagger the Medium of Doomspeak had given him, for it still glowed with the blood of the fallen Yeti-Worm that had ambushed him. The light would cause the hosts of Darkdeep to notice him. And when they notice me he thought, Then they will know that the Gatekeeper is no more. If that happened, even the Half-Djinni Spirit King's blessing couldn't save him.

Option two will bring us all back to the days of our childhood. It will show us the dreams we dreamed, and the lives we imagined into being. It will then proceed to trample them, rend them thrice in twain, and force-feed them to us through a funnel caked with a slimy substance of questionable origin. Yes, it has come at last!

Pokemon: The Golden Apocalypse - Prologue

Red ran through the dense forest, branches ripping at his clothes and snaring his feet. The vines that hung down from the canopy were covered in vicious thorns, but he ran straight through them, ignoring the searing streaks of crimson they left on his exposed face and arms. Behind him, a roar bellowed through the trees, causing some branches to fall, such was its ferocity. He tripped on one of these and before he could rise, the skies darkened. A reptilian monstrosity flew through the air above, spewing smoke from its nostrils and fire gleaming on its tail. As it flew past, a torrent of water erupted from the river to Red's left, and the dragon fell from the skies, somewhere to his right. The Blastoise turned in Red's direction, where the Charizard had fallen. Cursing, Red jumped up, and tried to escape the spot where soon, no doubt, two behemoths would battle. He had barely started, when both creatures fled from some creature more terrible than either of them. Though hidden by the forest, its advance was marked by the tremors that shook the ground and the crashing of distant trees. Red ran for but a moment, before reaching a clearing at the end of the forested valley. His heart sank, and his thoughts dulled as he slowly realized there was no escape; instead of a steady rise to the level of the surrounding land, there was a steep cliff, precluding any progress. Red turned, intending to run past his pursuer, when the Venusaur entered the clearing. The titanic beast stood twenty meters high, and a vine thicker than a large apling snaked from the bulb on it's back. Just as it was about to grab Red, the sun reached an angle that cause light to suffuse the scene. The vine retracted as the bulb on the giants back opened. A glow began to emanate from the flower, which grew unbearably bright and then leapt from bulb. The beam howled towards Red, heat rolling off it in waves and-

Red awoke screaming. Realizing it was just a dream, he laid back down. He was almost asleep when an errant thought strolled into his consciousness. He was sixteen today. It was the day of the Calling.

Option three is where I write a dark tale, Elphaba calls it horrible, I reply sarcastically, Met intervenes, Elphaba sides with him and I cry.

Coming Joys

There are plans. They have been set into motion.

Tuesday Tales.

I'ma try something here. I'm going to write a small chapter to a story every Tuesday. I have no plot in mind. I build it as I go. Reader input will be able to sway the future. Usually. Sooner or later a path may emerge, but for now that's the case. I know I already post twice a week, but I write more than that, so I'll post more than that. Please don't be an idiot and ignore the Lament that was posted today too. It's there.

Fun Fact!- Reogan scored 26 on a narcissism test! The average score is 15.6!

So You Want Me to Post?

Hey everybody! It's been a while hasn't it? And, as Reoganworks tradition seems to state, that means I have to promise to post regularly (And then fail to). However, this time it's completely different! 'How is it different Great and Powerful Reogan the Great,' you ask? Well this time it's interactive! I'm going to attempt to deliver features consistently on certain days. You may be wondering, 'What kind of features are they?' Well, I'm glad you asked! Remember Random Thoughts? Of course you don't! I haven't posted any in so long, everyone who's read them has died! So do yourselves a favor, and look up the Random Thoughts tag. You'll be glad you did.

Now, class, your homework is to post what kinds of features you'd like to see, and I'll pick what I like from them. I already intend to post the remainder of the Lament, once per week. But you tell me everything else. You could ask for more Random Thoughts. You could request A Day in the Life of a Necromancer. You may want me to continue the tale of Jacques Cousteau in I'd Recommend Leaving, or something of your own design, such as The Adventures of Reginald Gold, Billion-Heir Extraordinaire. You've got a week. Go.

Hiatus

It has already begun, but now it is official. Reoganworks is on indefinite hiatus. We will return by Midsummer's Eve. Hopefully sooner. Possibly even tomorrow. Who knows?

Yggdrasil, my post quality's dropping.

Here's an FYI

You're all gonna die screaming. (Jonathan Coulton. Re Your Brains)

Just wanted to point out that GLaDOS's Lament is now numbered in Roman Numerals so that our Roman audience can count them. That is all.

Sporadic Posting!

Yeah, I'm trying to get back, but between spore and life, it's failing to work. I haven't given up. Yet. However, to tide you over here is a cheesy, yet educational video.

Announcement

I just got Reogan's email. I've arrived. Am I by any means qualified for this?

Sunday, January 13, 2008

You do the thinking, I do the writing.

What posts do you want on this blog? Every idea will be considered, some will be laughed at, and a lucky few will be new posts. They can be all of the above. Don't forget my poll over there.

The Return Of Reogan!

I'm back! I will add posts daily, weekly, or bi-monthly if I choose. There will be no warning. Great isn't it?
