The Sevenfold Sorrows of the Lord I

The armies of man massed at the mountain, heeding the call of their Lord. The seven Kings bowed at His feet, and He spoke. "For what do you serve Me?"
"Only to honor You," spoke Darius the Plains Chief, least of the Kings.
"Only to reclaim what is Yours," spoke Melchior the Trade Baron, sixth of the Kings.
"Only to repay Your love," spoke Nicodemus the Forest Sage, fifth among the Kings.
"Only to give You everything," spoke Ivan the Ocean Scourge, fourth of the Kings.
"Only to bring you glory," spoke Nero the Cavern Mage, third among the Kings.
"Only to restore Your lands," spoke Gilgamesh the Mountain Warrior, second of the Kings.
"Only to heed Your call," spoke Lucifer the Brilliant, first of the Kings, and the Lord's prophet.

Okay; this is interesting, but see my comment under God Dreamt Chapter Six for why I don't really approve of this writing from you. Where are you getting this stuff? What inspires it? Why do you post it?

Mondays are traditionally sorrowful. We've had the Laments of both GLaDOS and the Winged. I've always thought the one being with the most to be sorrowful would be any non-specific Lord. As Between the Lines says, The Sevenfold Sorrows of the Lord is not going to be religious, despite the presence of a character named the Lord and the appearance of a Lucifer. I don't think I ever posted anything with a religious bent here. I don't ever intend to. All I do is create worlds.

So... I 'get this stuff' from the mysterious aether, as the Muses sing to me.

I am inspired in the way all are, suddenly and without warning. Some can be traced to sources, most just appear. This appeared.

I post it because, where I'm concerned, Reoganworks exists to showcase my works and provide entertainment to those who read them. I actually censor all my writings, and I have file of 'Horrible Things' I find to vile to post. I write whatever asks me to write it, but I only place the best on here. This seems to me to be at that level.

To clarify, the first sentence of that last part is intended to mean 'when I post.' I don't believe this blog exists only to showcase my work. I believe my posts usually do. This blog exists for all of us. Each for their own reasons.

Yeah... I'm not buying that. Why include it then if you knew the religious connections associated with those names?

"I don't think I ever posted anything with a religious bent here."

I'm sure you were very careful not to express your support for your God... I'm sure it would be too... controversial for you to handle. Am I the only one who sees this hypocrisy?

"I don't ever intend to."

Yeah, yeah, whatever, look at the paragraph above again.

"All I do is create worlds."

And somehow you fail to understand the meaning behind these worlds and their connection to you (as evidence by your writing; you continually claim that your writing has little connection to your self and if you want a direct connection check the quote below).

"So... I 'get this stuff' from the mysterious aether, as the Muses sing to me."

See above... And does this not have a religious bend to it? Look up the definition of the world religion...

"I am inspired in the way all are, suddenly and without warning. Some can be traced to sources, most just appear. This appeared."

Ummm... last I checked you wrote it; it appeared with you. You inspired yourself. Things don't just appear.

"I post it because, where I'm concerned, Reoganworks exists to showcase my works and provide entertainment to those who read them."

I think your entertainment is no longer entertainment and more philosophy... You don't randomly write about gods for entertainment; maybe it's entertaining for you, but I doubt I'm alone in thinking that something is wrong here. You don't write things that have no connection to you. There's a reason why you write it and if you think I'll believe that you wrote this for the entertainment of others you're sadly mistaken. There's always a connection.

"I actually censor all my writings, and I have file of 'Horrible Things' I find to vile to post."

Interesting, you know how much I'd love to get my hands on these...

"I write whatever asks me to write it, but I only place the best on here. This seems to me to be at that level."

Translation: You post what you feel like posting and what you feel fits on the blog. I already knew this... Your rewording changes little for me.

"To clarify, the first sentence of that last part is intended to mean 'when I post.' I don't believe this blog exists only to showcase my work. I believe my posts usually do."

Yes they do, you certainly use most of the blog for it too. This edit still doesn't change what I wrote under that paragraph so I'll leave it how it is now. Glad you clarified your point...

"This blog exists for all of us."

I noticed, it's hard for me to notice something that doesn't exist because then it wouldn't exist now would it?

"Each for their own reasons."

What you do here is try to please everyone by letting them interpret this how they want to. You want to make it seem like you're throwing them a line when you're really just restating a simple fact and in the context of your writing I can only assume it exists purely to make yourself appear neutral and "fair". Coming from you this means absolutely nothing to me. You're writing this, you tell me your reasons and nothing more.

"Yeah... I'm not buying that. Why include it then if you knew the religious connections associated with those names?"

The Lord is present because of religious association. Everyone, from fundamentalist Christians to stout atheists can appreciate the great and terrible power of such a being. But he's not any particular Lord. Lucifer and any other biblical names just are little things to communicate a world without any description. The reader knows that it isn't just a 'world,' it's a land where Melchior presides over trade and Darius rides the plains. The brain fills in all the gaps. Lucifer will probably become an allusion, but allusions are everywhere.

"Am I the only one who sees this hypocrisy?"

Actually, yes. Probably due to my current sleep deprivation (I've awful habits), but yes. Currently you are. Probably after I nap or when Elphaba comments you won't be.

"Ummm... last I checked you wrote it; it appeared with you. You inspired yourself. Things don't just appear."

Thoughts and ideas do. The brain generates random things that I can sometimes latch to. Sleep deprivation assists in idea farming.I simply write what comes out. Most writers of fiction agree, no matter what we plan, stories write themselves in the end. We just hold the pen to the paper for them.

"I think your entertainment is no longer entertainment and more philosophy... You don't randomly write about gods for entertainment; maybe it's entertaining for you, but I doubt I'm alone in thinking that something is wrong here."

Gods have always been a nice fount of stories for me, but I really rarely write such tales. God Dreamt was probably written a year ago now. I just came up with the Sorrows coincidentally as it was being posted.

"You don't write things that have no connection to you."

Did I claim to? I write things from an unknown source, but they all hold some meaning to me. They all make me laugh. They all make me weep.

"There's a reason why you write it and if you think I'll believe that you wrote this for the entertainment of others you're sadly mistaken."

Then I am mistaken. Unless you mean to say this was written to cause others to express their feelings of entertainment so that I can feel validated in my existence, in which case I am not. But I doubt you mean that.

"Interesting, you know how much I'd love to get my hands on these..."

No, you would not. These things are horrible. I write them out because they hone my art, and because they would drive me mad through the cacophony in my head, but these things are just awful. They are forever buried. They can't even be accessed from my computer without full knowledge of how they're hidden.

"Translation: You post what you feel like posting and what you feel fits on the blog. I already knew this... Your rewording changes little for me."

I post what writes itself and is of a certain quality, yes.

"Yes they do, you certainly use most of the blog for it too."

I use only the days that would otherwise pass unposted. I would gladly surrender Wednesday, and more if you really wanted them.

And rather than quote bits of your last bit, allow me to answer thusly. I wrote that because it's true. The blog exists for different reasons for us all. It's my showcase, Elphaba's... training ground or showcase I guess... and whatever you want it to be as well. My 'neutrality' is as it is only because we all build the blog as we want to.

As we need.

I really wish I could get to this stuff tonight, but I need my sleep. Rest assured that I will respond... eventually.

I see your point, but you're smart enough to see how most other people will see this.

"Actually, yes. Probably due to my current sleep deprivation (I've awful habits), but yes. Currently you are. Probably after I nap or when Elphaba comments you won't be."

I still support this and I'll repost what I had from last time: "I don't think I ever posted anything with a religious bent here."

This makes no sense unless you're suggesting Divine Inspiration. Please clarify.

"Gods have always been a nice fount of stories for me, but I really rarely write such tales. God Dreamt was probably written a year ago now. I just came up with the Sorrows coincidentally as it was being posted."

All I have to say is be careful, you do seem somewhat of a hypocrite to me if you continue writing fiction about your gods when your God is out there who saved you and died for you, but you don't mention Him.

"Did I claim to? I write things from an unknown source, but they all hold some meaning to me. They all make me laugh. They all make me weep."

Unknown source? I agree with the rest, but I'm having a hard time buying this. Seems to be similar to the issues discussed on SOTWRS2.

"Then I am mistaken. Unless you mean to say this was written to cause others to express their feelings of entertainment so that I can feel validated in my existence, in which case I am not. But I doubt you mean that."

Who am I to dictate your motives? I concede this point and I apologize for the poor debate skills. Wow, January 23rd really wasn't my day...

Why do you write horrible things to hone your art? What kind of horrible are we talking about here?

Your relative thinking here is troubling. This is a little too close to evolution/communism for me and I'd like you to clarify this once again.

Well I did say I'd get around to it eventually...
Sorry I took so long.

"I see your point, but you're smart enough to see how most other people will see this."

Certainly. However, I'm also to mad to care.

"Am I the only one who sees this hypocrisy?"

Yes.

"This makes no sense unless you're suggesting Divine Inspiration. Please clarify... Unknown source? I agree with the rest, but I'm having a hard time buying this"

Creativity is not a conscious process. By any means. At all.

"All I have to say is be careful, you do seem somewhat of a hypocrite to me if you continue writing fiction about your gods when your God is out there who saved you and died for you, but you don't mention Him."

I'm a writer of fiction. I doubt you want biblical fanfiction.

"Why do you write horrible things to hone your art? What kind of horrible are we talking about here?"

Ideas are children. Once conceived, it isn't a good idea to leave them sit forever. They will insist on being born. To abort them is to murder Creativity. In answer to your second question: beyond good taste. And then some. And a little more.

"Your relative thinking here is troubling. This is a little too close to evolution/communism for me and I'd like you to clarify this once again."

Cannot something serve different purposes for many, and be accepted by all?
